Installation instructions

  1. Download this file and unZIP it into a directory named Ballads (or whatever).  The resultant files are ballads.htm, titles.htm, nav.htm and read_me.htm.

  2. Next, download the HTML Index file from the Fresno site - http://www.csufresno.edu/folklore/BalladIndexTOC.html - and unZIP it into your Ballads directory.  Rename the file to 'data.htm'.

  3. Start your Web Browser and load 'ballads.htm'.

The display is a horizontally split screen (the split-point is dragable) with all the song titles in the top half of the screen, and the Index in the bottom.  All the titles are hyperlinked to the appropriate point in the Index.  Since the titles file is much smaller (only 10,437 lines rather than the 105,035 lines in the Index), it's far easier and quicker to find the title of the song you need.  In addition, there's a set of A to Z buttons at the top of the upper window.  Click on the, say, D button and the Titles file jumps to the start of the titles beginning with D, thus minimising the scrolling you need to do.  Then you merely click on the title in the top window and the Index immediately jumps to the appropriate entry in the bottom one.
